We had dinner with our close friends Kelly and Dick on Friday - checked out their new kitchen which ROCKS! We were telling this story to them and Dick said "you gotta put that on your blog" (even though he's never even seen it!) so I am.
The Canes played last week (ahem... the last time they won, I do believe) and in that game, Chad LaRose scored a hat trick. Pretty cool - Ken was telling Matt at breakfast the next morning about the accomplisment - and the first thing out of his mouth was "well, he must be doing drugs then."
WHAT??
This is our seven year old, sweet, innocent, sports loving son talking. Ken looked at him and said "why would you say that?"
"You can't be that good and not be doing drugs."
WOW. OK so for all those people that somehow think that the drug scandals in baseball, cycling, cross country skiing, running, swimming... the list goes on and on - has not been picked up by the next generation - I am here to let you know you are completely wrong. They DO know - they are very aware. The innocence is gone - even for the youngest fans. It makes me incredibly sad and angry that my son has to even process the thoughts of a champion being "clean" or drugged.
