A perfect weekend

My dad and step mom were in town this weekend which is always a treat. We didn't have any super go-go-go plans - a lot of hanging out and just visiting. The highlight of my weekend was on Saturday, listening to Grammy and Ainsley in the kitchen.

Ainsley wanted to help grammy as she was preparing some of the food for the cookout later Saturday night - and for the first time ever - it was SAFE for the bear to help out. (Grammy typically cooks with cheese, milk and eggs... :)) They - together - made these amazing potatoes for dinner, and Ainsley helped the whole time. Listening to them chatting to each other - Lorraine explaining to Ainsley the steps that needed to be done and why, and Ainsley asking her own questions - was very serene and brought joy to my heart. Of all the places and all the times to be in my kitchen - this past Saturday was "it".

We had a pretty good sized crowd join us for dinner that evening - and everyone else loved the potatoes too! The kids (6 of them) raced around the yard until nearly 10 o'clock playing Weed Whacker Massacre... yes - that was the game they created. Object - the weed "whacker" (child with the toy weed whacker...) chases the other kids around until one is cornered away from home base... and then he or she becomes the whacker.

Good Grief... but man do they have great creativity skills!
