Freaking Matthew out...

Our son is SO much like me that it's almost unreal. He gets something in his head, and he just can't let it go.

This week, we transitioned the kids to taking the bus home from school. Trust me - it's not my favourite option either - but in light of the complete insanity that has taken over the parents in carpool at Brassfield, it was really the only choice for us.

They started Tuesday and it was fine... last night during dinner Matthew confessed that he was so engrossed in learning about something after school on Wednesday had ended that he nearly missed the bus! We laughed and said "well that would be no good, being stuck at school!" thinking he totally got that we were joking.

Well - he didn't.

He comes out of his room at 9:30 pretty upset, saying he cannot sleep. I ask why, and he just breaks down and says "my head can't stop thinking about missing the bus and being stuck at school!". Oh I FEEL HORRIBLE! It dawns on me that we never did talk to him or Ainsley about what ACTUALLY happens if you miss the bus - so he is completely beside himself with fear now. I snuggled him up and explained that he would NEVER be left at school - and that if he misses the bus anytime, for any reason - that his teacher will call mommy or daddy and we will just run right over and pick him up! He'd never be left alone...

That worked, and after 20 minutes more of just hanging out, he processed it all and was ready for bed. I still feel guilty today and my ability to send him into a tizzy - completely un-intentionally - but still.

Bad mommy badge again today.
