Enough Already!

So it snowed here on Friday/Saturday - maybe 4-5 inches. We are now headed into DAY THREE of no school. The YR families are freaking out about their Saturday makeup days. (How does that work anyway? Everyone is missing full days, but the YR kids get to make up half, traditional have to make up full days??) Traditional families are annoyed about spring break and an extra day in June. I feel sorry for the Cary, Apex and Holly Springs families that are being forced to stay home because the roads in North Raleigh and Wake Forest are still crap.

Really - people bitch about calendars, bitch about magnets, bitch about curriculum... (well... me included on the whole equitable curriculum part...) but - what they need to BITCH about is the lack of process or planning that somehow results in 146 THOUSAND children being kept home from school because the neighbourhood roads in *some* parts of this massive county are still iffy. Hello? City of Raleigh? Wake County? What is the priority sequence of events when a snow or ice event happens here?

I know there are few pennies in the coffers for salt trucks and plows... but I saw at least 10 trucks with plows, salt and sand wandering up and down perfectly clear (albeit wet) roads today. Could they have not made a pass through a school parking lot or neighbourhood?? You know - just for grins??

Who is managing this stuff?

(Don't answer that...)

**Edit - I am adding in the pics of everyone having fun in the snow now... once I got over my cranky pants mood - it really was a fun time for the kids!! :)

This dog was totally airborne for the ENTIRE time she was outside playing! She loved the snow!!

Amelia hated the cold. Her poor nose got SO red. She had a much better time on Sunday when it was sunny and warmer.

Best friends... even though they can make each other crazy!

And now... the really GOOD pics from Ken's camera!!

You crazy Canadians think that there is actually some sort of planning that goes into all this stuff? Snow, especially in the south, is an alien element that disrupts anything and everything until it melts - on its own - no salt allowed.
