For Ainsley's birthday this year, we were able to get her 2 private riding lessons at Triton Stables in Durham.
Awesome.
Megan Ward is her trainer, and she is delightful. Megan has been riding since she was 7 years old and is great with kids. Here is Ainsley meeting her horse for the afternoon - "Noodles"! He lost an eye a few years ago due to infection.
The first part of every lesson is prepping the horse - brushing, tacking up and getting ready to ride. The kids do the work with the trainer so they learn. Matthew lasted about 45 nanoseconds with this - we had to Benadryl him and shove him in the van with a book for the rest of the hour as he was so allergic! No country girls for this boy!!!
Down at the ring, ready to go!
Ainsley was very comfortable, very fast. She has great balance and strength. She was also about ready to burst from excitement - she is barely keeping herself contained at times!!
Ainsley quickly learned how to post and was pretty comfortable trotting. She is so comfortable with this big animal!
This is the end of her hour with Megan, and she was grinning from ear to ear. It truly was the best birthday EVER for Ainsley... and us. Nice to find something that she loved this much!!

She looks like a pro up there! I would have been sitting in the car with Matthew. I can't even go near a stable without collapsing from allergies. Horses are the worst allergy I have. So, is she going to give up soccer in favor of riding?
not giving up anything at the moment - we'll see where it all goes!
